Veteran entertainer opens his home to like-minded travelers
Actor/singer Michael de Pinna is a fixture of South Africa's TV and cabaret scene, perhaps best known for his long-running Vodaphone ad campaign. He grew up, though, as a hotel brat -- his pop was GM of the Grosvenor in London -- and so it was natural that he gravitate to hospitality as a sideline. Now you can stay in two roomy cottages or a large bedroom on his well-located, walled and gated property in the Melrose North suburb of Johannesburg. The "East Wing" and "West Wing" are self-contained cottages with living room, full kitchen, bedroom, washer/dryer and private gardens; the Red Suite is in the main house. The latter includes breakfast, which is available in the cottages on request. All accommodations are R950 per room per night; there is no VAT, apparently due to the small size of the enterprise. No pets, as Michael has four cocker spaniels on the property. Online bookings and credit cards accepted. Very convenient to spanking-new Melrose Arch mall and other eating and entertainment venues. Secure parking.
