This amazing small hotel near the Sterkfontein Caves museum and archaeological site has won awards for its design, cuisine, and hospitality. Semi-subterranean suites are designed to blend into the landscape (with grass roofs) and decorated in restrained Afro-chic style. The property is on a small game ranch located within the Sterkfontein Caves site in Gauteng's dwindling greenbelt; guests can see 160 bird species, kudu, waterbuck, even hippos on walks around the property -- or even from their bathtubs! The floors are heated and there are fireplaces to cozy up the highveld nights.
