100% love it
Touristy but beautiful and fun
This upscale mainstream chain offers a little bit of each of Africa's many cuisines in a stunning and creatively inspiring Afro-chic setting for lunch, drinks, shisha and dinner, though people tend to go more for the setting than the food. All textiles, fixtures, etc., down to the bathroom sinks, are locally handmade, and the balcony overlooking Zoo Lake (site of Jo'burg Pride) is a tranquil respite from Jo'burg's dichotomous malls and mayhem. Waiters will even offer you blankets when the sun goes down on you and your sundowner (it gets cold in Gauteng at night, due to the elevation) and will paint your face Xhosa-style, if that appeals. Very good for groups. Buffet and a la carte meals average R250 plus alcohol. Live entertainment in the evenings. Attached gift shop offers a well-edited selection of South African music and crafts. Branches in Pretoria, Stellenbosch, Durban, Cape Town and up the road in suburban Jo'burg's Melrose Arch mall.
